How many smoke detectors should I have installed in my home?

The 2009 National Fire Protection Association’s Life Safety Codes, which is what the State of NH uses, requires one detector in each bedroom and one in each common room excluding the kitchen and bathrooms. In addition, there needs to be one at the top of each stairway and in hallways.

As a follow up, in the State of NH, once you own or are the midst of purchasing your private residence, fire inspections are not required. However, if you are buying a new home or if you want to make your current home safe, then Milton Fire-Rescue recommends following the NFPA requirements.
